Forum category and section discussion

[Evolution Master]

While we had a decent layout in the original GU, I'm wondering if we should alter it to give more focus to the categories that actually had more attention in the previous GU. Here's an analysis and my opinions of the original sections from GU (the number of posts indicate the posts each forum section had in GU before it closed down):

Category: BASICS

*Announcements - It's fine as it states our updates. (238 posts)
*Introduction/Leaving - Mandatory and important. (385 posts)
*GStore - It's a unique feature to GU, but we need to plan it out this time. Acceptable imo (210 posts)
*Help and Improvements - I feel it's mandatory for general regards and questions not found in the FAQs. (191 posts)
*Promotion Directory - Very optional and was added as a last minute resort to the original GU. I feel it can be removed. (79 posts)
*Staff Section - Mandatory section, but it should probably be added once/if we ever release to public. (376 posts)

Category: LIFE EVENTS

*General Discussion - Mandatory section. It deserves to return. (1005 POSTS)
*Entertainment and Media - I feel it's optional, but it did well on the original GU. (404 posts)
*Sports and Fitness - I think this could be merged into General Discussion. Thoughts? (178 posts)
*The Ask Me Anything section - A fun section for the members. It should return for their sake. (362 posts)
*World News - It could have done better and we all are aware of world events. But is it necessary for a gaming forum? Could it do better in General Discussion? (169 posts)
*GU Battle Tournament - Shouldn't return unless we have plans to maintaining it. (632 posts)

Category: GAMES

*Nintendo - Our premise really. It's very easy to cover most Nintendo series within this one section. (899 POSTS)
*Super Mario - It did decently. There's not much to discuss in Mario, but as a Nintendo forum it did well. (201 POSTS)
*Pokemon & Online Activities -Pokemon did better than Mario. Plenty of discussion, and it's possible we could make Pokemon its own category? (453 POSTS)
*Other Games - It didn't do as well as it should have (covering other systems). Though this is a Nintendo forum..is it needed? (128 posts)
*Upcoming Games/Consoles - Did VERY poorly. Should be removed and merged with Nintendo. (64 posts)

Category: EXTRAS

Forum Games (7737 POSTS) is really the only thing we need here, but the others are debatable. Fanfiction (214 posts) did surprisingly well for our gaming forum in regards to our writers. Roleplay (173 posts) can be merged within here or made a sub forum within Fanfiction.

General Spam (1429 POSTS) really did surprisingly well (despite it being our joke section). We could very well keep it (though most users spammed here sadly and ignored the rest of the forum). Funny Picture Zone/Video Theatre/Graphics+Art/Rom Hacks are all debatable and could be merged (all have less than 200 posts).

Trash is the mandatory basket.

So what's your thoughts? What I feel is that we should emphasize the Pokemon aspects of the forum. Maybe make it have its own section (with Pokemon Games, Anime, Manga, and Online activities). General anime could separate from Entertainment and Media as it did well before its sudden merge.

Everything seems good to me. I agree with you on the following:

*Promotion Directory - I think we should remove this as well. It could also be a good factor later on though. If this is released to the public then became popular, i feel that this would be useful to get the news around to other popular forums.

*Sports and Fitness - Not really an important topic. Can be merged like you said.

*World News - Also can be merged

*Other Games - im not sure about this.. Your choice

*Upcoming Games/Consoles -Merge

Everything else is good. Merging could be possibility too.

Final thoughts

*Promotion Directory will be put on hold for now as you suggested AF. It's not important for us at the timebeing.

*Sports and Fitness along with World News will be merged with General Discussion. Our premise is gaming, and everything else will be placed under General Discussion (unless a subcategory must be added sometime in the future).

*Other Games - debatable though I know it did poorly in the past. I might just keep it if people want post about non-Nintendo gaming. Deciding on this.

*Upcoming Games - merging this for sure.
